KIPP Northeast Denver Leadership Academy (KNDLA) is a tuition-free, college-preparatory public charter high school in Far Northeast Denver. Our mission is to develop strong leaders and lifelong learners who possess the knowledge, character, habits, and determination to fulfill their dreams and build a brighter tomorrow. Founded in 2015, KIPP Northeast Denver Leadership Academy students are invested in being well-regulated advocates of their own learning and growth who are thoughtful, critical thinkers, and highly engaged in a range of collaborative and independent holistic learning activities. KIPP educators partner with students and families to provide rigorous academics, character growth, and extracurricular activities so that students can define their own future.

Richard Royal
Interim Principal, KIPP Northeast Denver Leadership Academy
Born in an industrial town in the North of England, Richard attended the University of Cambridge as an undergraduate as a beneficiary of the merit-based Isaac Newton Award and the Bell, Abbott & Barnes Award. Following a brief career as a Management Consultant, Richard has worked in education since 2009 serving in a range of roles in the public, international and independent sector prior to joining KIPP Colorado in May 2019 as Assistant Principal at KNDLA, now serving as interim Principal at KNDLA. Richard has achieved teaching certification in three countries (the UK, Germany and the USA) in addition to a M.A. in Contemporary History and a M.Ed. Leadership & Management. Richard acted as consultant to the Board of Directors at the French American School of Denver, Board Member and Chief Financial Officer at the European Youth Parliament/Schwarzkopf-Stiftung and as Chair of the Board of a housing community in Lafayette, CO. He’s a fan of fantasy football and Rockies baseball.
