Dear KIPP Colorado Team & Family,
I am thrilled to share with you all the outcomes of a recent, long-term study that spotlights the true transformational impact of the KIPP network. Read on to learn more about the study’s incredible insights and discover the ways in which we are shaping our organization to ensure our KIPP Colorado KIPPsters are academically aligned with their national peers.
2023 Mathematica Study
An independent Mathematica study was recently released, showing the true impact of attending a KIPP middle and high school.
The study tracked over 2,000 students across ten regions who applied to join KIPP in 5th and 6th grade. These students graduated from high school in the classes of 2016, 2017, and 2019, with their college enrollments, persistence, and degree completion tracked until the Spring of 2022. Here are some of Mathematica’s incredible findings:
- Higher Graduation Rates: Students who attended KIPP for both middle and high school were found to be almost twice as likely to persist and graduate from a four-year college compared to their peers who did not attend KIPP.
- Increased College Enrollment: KIPP students were 67% more likely to enroll in a four-year college than those who did not attend KIPP.
- Significant Impact Nationwide: The transformative impact of attending KIPP schools extrapolated nationwide, would be large enough to entirely close the degree-completion gap between white and Black students and nearly close the degree-completion gap between white and Latinx students in the United States.
KIPP Colorado Context
We are so honored to be a part of a nationwide network that we can tap into for thought partnership and guidance. KIPP Colorado is working hard to make this data true for every one of our KIPPsters. We are committed to ensuring our students graduate from our schools with every opportunity available to them, and we have already begun the work necessary to let their unique brilliance shine.
We’re aligning across the board – from whole school systems to aligned programming, common curriculum, and common assessments, in order to ensure an equitable and exceptional student experience for every KIPPster.
We’re also enhancing support for schools and educators, offering targeted professional development, and increasing on-the-ground support from the regional team to improve academic outcomes.
Our path forward includes critical staffing enhancements, such as Managing Directors for school-level support and Senior Directors for student experience, culture, and data analysis. These changes will enable us to better meet the evolving needs of our students and families.
Let’s Do This!
With this plan in place, we are confident that, together, we will be able to deliver on the promise that we have made to all students who have walked through our doors. It will take commitment, hard work, and support from our partners.
Your generosity will support KIPP Colorado in building capacity and ensuring that we have the systems for our KIPPsters to have a choice-filled life. Click here to make your contribution today!
In Partnership,
