Any student may request a spot at KIPP; our schools participate in the Denver Public Schools’ School Choice process. Admission to KIPP schools is not based on past academic performance and our schools are tuition-free. Once accepted, we ask all students and parents to sign a non-binding Commitment to Excellence contract to demonstrate a commitment to going above and beyond in our pursuit of college. All KIPP staff also sign this contract.
Our middle schools (KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy and KIPP Northeast Denver Middle School) start in fifth grade and that is the year our schools have the most available seats for new students. However, our schools do take in a small number of students in later grades. Similarly, KIPP Denver Collegiate High School and KIPP Northeast Denver Leadership Academy take in most of their students in ninth grade.
Additionally, students starting pre-kindergarten and kindergarten are encouraged to seek admission at KIPP Northeast Elementary and KIPP Sunshine Peak Elementary.
Round 1 of choice enrollment for the 2021-22 school year begins January 15, 2021, and remains open until February 16, 2021. Round 2 of school choice enrollment will begin in April 2021 and remain open through August 2021. Enrollment during Round 2 is on a first come, first served basis. Learn more about enrollment and begin the enrollment process here.
Parents and students will be notified of first round enrollment in late March of each year. During the second round of School Choice, students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and will be notified of acceptance immediately after they complete the required paperwork.
